Short answer: Charleston’s cooler months work well for bounce houses and obstacle courses. Average highs sit in the 60s from November through February, which is comfortable for jumping. What changes is daylight, the occasional windy cold front, and water slides, which run dry.
What the weather looks like
| Month | Average high (°F) | Average low (°F) |
|---|---|---|
| November | 69 | 47 |
| December | 63 | 42 |
| January | 60 | 39 |
| February | 64 | 42 |
| March | 70 | 47 |
These are 30-year averages (1991–2020) from NOAA climate data. Cold fronts still bring days in the 40s and 50s, so plan the party for the warmest part of the day, usually early to mid-afternoon.
Plan around daylight
Daylight saving time ends in early November, and by mid-November the sun sets around 5:15 p.m. in Charleston. It stays before 5:30 p.m. through December. A party from about 1 to 4 p.m. gives you full daylight for jumping and cleanup.
Dry rentals fit best
- Bounce houses. All eight of our bounce houses work year-round, from classic castles to themed units.
- Obstacle courses and games. The Blazin Obstacle Course, zorb arena, axe throwing and football toss suit school events, church festivals and company parties. See obstacle courses and games.
- Water slides, run dry. Wet slides are a warm-weather rental. Our Cotton Candy wet/dry slide can also run dry as a big two-lane slide; ask about it in your quote.
Wind and rain rules still apply
Our rental agreement says not to use a bounce house in winds over 15 mph, in heavy rain or in lightning. Winter fronts can bring gusty afternoons, so check the hourly forecast the day before. If it looks unsafe, call us before the delivery window to talk through options.
Indoor setups
A school gym or church fellowship hall makes a good cold-weather backup. Measure the ceiling first. Our classic Inflatable Bounce House stands 6.8 feet tall, which helps where overhead space is limited. Indoor setups can’t use ground stakes, so tell us about the venue when you request a quote and we will confirm whether it works.
Power for winter events
If the venue is also running holiday lights, coffee urns or space heaters, keep the blower on its own outlet, as our rental agreement requires. Our quiet inverter generators cover sites without a free circuit.
Cool-weather events that work well
- Birthday parties from November through March
- Church fall festivals and Christmas events
- School winter carnivals and early-spring field days
- Company holiday parties, where the zorb arena and axe throwing work for adults
