Short answer: it depends on who runs the park. Charleston County parks and some North Charleston sites allow a bounce house with approval, the City of Charleston charges a separate inflatable permit fee, and several town pavilions ban them outright. Check the park’s own rules before you book anything, including with us.
We read the published rules for the park systems around Charleston in October 2026. Rules change, so use this as a starting point and confirm with the park office.
Park rules at a glance
| Park system | Inflatables? | What the published rules say |
|---|---|---|
| Charleston County Parks (CCPRC) | With approval | “Air castles” are on the list of special event equipment that needs Park Management approval before the event. Events with multiple inflatables, or that spread beyond a shelter, need an event application. Outlets are limited, and some sites must approve where staked equipment goes. |
| City of Charleston parks | With a permit | The facility reservation application lists an Inflatable/Games permit fee and deposit, asks whether you will bring temporary power, and requires written approval for commercial activity in a park. |
| City of North Charleston parks | At some sites, with approval | Jump castles are permitted at some sites with prior approval. The rental company must give the city a copy of its liability insurance before the event and bring its own generator. No water slides. |
| Town of Summerville, Gahagan Park pavilions | No | Jump castles, water slides and similar special event equipment are prohibited. There is no power or water at the pavilions. |
| City of Goose Creek, John McCants Veterans Park pavilion | No | No inflatables, jump castles or mechanical rides. No electricity or water. |
| Town of James Island, Pinckney Park pavilion | No | Food trucks, rides, bounce houses and tents are not allowed. |
| Town of Mount Pleasant parks | Ask first | We could not find a published inflatable rule. Call the Town’s recreation department before you book. |
What to ask the park before you book
- Are inflatables allowed at this exact site? Rules can differ between parks in the same system, and between a shelter and an open field. Ask about “jump castles” or “air castles,” since that is the wording many park rules use.
- Is there a permit, fee or deposit? The City of Charleston lists a separate inflatable fee and deposit on its reservation application.
- Do they need the rental company’s certificate of insurance? North Charleston requires one before the event. Tell us when you book and we will send ours to the park office.
- Is there power? Many pavilions have no outlets, and North Charleston requires the rental company to bring a generator. Our rental agreement calls for each blower to run on its own dedicated outlet, so plan on a generator if the park can’t confirm power.
- Can equipment be staked into the ground? Some parks must approve where staked equipment goes. If stakes aren’t allowed, ask us before you book whether that site can be set up another way.
- Can you get the approval in writing? A forwarded email from the park office is enough. Send it with your booking so our crew can show it on site if asked.
When the park says no
A private yard, church lawn, school field or HOA amenity area is usually simpler, because the property owner or manager can approve the setup directly. Get that permission in writing too, especially for an HOA or rental property.
How we handle park events
Tell us the park and shelter name when you request a quote. We confirm the setup area, power and anchoring with you before the date is final, and we can add a quiet inverter generator if the site has no outlets. Delivery is free within 20 miles of downtown Charleston.
Browse bounce houses, obstacle courses and games, or water slides. Water slides are not allowed at North Charleston parks or Summerville’s Gahagan Park pavilions. For surfaces and anchoring, see setting up on concrete or in a public park; for permits outside parks, see bounce house permits in South Carolina.
